The following information and instructions apply to this room:
This Podium room is equipped with a video projector, PC computer, Mac laptop connection, and room audio system. It is designed to allow you to display any standard video, audio, computer source you bring with you, or use the built-in PC. The room is operated via the control panel located in a flip top box in the center of the desk. The flip top box has connections for a computer (SVGA) or DVI, video, S-video, audio and networking.
To control the classroom
- Turn the projector on and off: Press the Power on button on the control panel to turn the projector on. Press the Power off button on the control panel to turn the projector off. It will take one to two minutes for a projector to warm up and display an image.
- Choose the source you wish to display: Select the appropriate source from the top set of buttons on the control panel.
- VGA Laptop - Press the VGA Laptop button.
- DVI Laptop - Press the DVI Laptop button.
- Video device using S-video - Press the AUX Video button.
- Video device using composite video - Press the AUX Video button.
- Mute the projected image - Press the IMG MUTE button to mask the image on the main display.
- To control the classroom's screen: The buttons in bottom center of the control panel are used to raise or lower the projection screen. Please be sure to raise the screen when you are finished using the room.
- To control the classrooms lighting: Switches on the wall control fluorescent and or incandescent lighting in the room. We suggest you dim the lights as much as possible for LCD Projection viewing, taking special care to at least turn the lights off that shine on the projection screen. Those lights will make the your display materials more difficult for your class to view.
- To control the classroom audio level Use the audio Volume Up/Down buttons on the control panel to adjust the audio level.

You can play a DVD in this room using the installed PC. First Turn the main display device on.
(Please refer to the setup tab for more specific instructions on turning on the main display device)
- PC Login: At the Login screen, use your ADRICE account. If you do not have one use the user name: podium, the password: podium, and the domain: ADRICE.
- Playing the DVD: Insert the DVD and the PC will automatically open the appropriate application to play your media.
- Controling the DVD player: Use the mouse to select items from the player menu.
Tips:
- The keyboard is set to a foreign language or seems odd: If the keyboard has been left set to a foreign language, it can be reset to the standard English US keyboard by pressing the Ctrl, Shift keys and the numeral 1 key simultaneously (Ctrl + Shift + 1). To shift quickly to the English US International keyboard, press Ctrl + Shift + 2.
- The screen reads no source: Move the mouse, or type on the keyboard to wake up the computer.
- The DVD is from another region: Use VLC player to play the DVD
There is an overhead located in the room for your use. Plug the overhead in and turn it onby pressing the power switch located in the bottom right corner of the overhead.
To switch lamps on the overhead: If you need to switch to the auxiliary lamp, open the hatch on the bottom left of the overhead and turn the dial all the way over to the other lamp indicated (1 or 2). Please email cts@rice.edu to let them know a new lamp is needed in the room.
