On August 29, 2007, a groundbreaking ceremony marked the beginning of construction of Burton and Deedee McMurtry College. In addition to the President, Chariman of the Board, etc., the donors were honored by representatives from the existing colleges at Rice who presented gifts ranging from a copy of "Robert's Rules of Order" to shaving cream and a bicycle.
