The mission of the Educational Technologies Media Services Group is to support and promote the use of digital media to promote education, research and collaboration at Rice University.

The Media Services Group provides the following services:

Event Services
[Please use our Resevation Form for event support requests]
Here you will find a complete listing of event services that we offer. The short version reads: event consultations, multimedia equipment set-up, video and/or audio recording, event webcast, etc. If you find that you need help doing something not listed, please email us and ask, we probably do it! (or we know someone who does . . .).

Please notice: the Media Services Group does not provide loaner equipment, nor does it provide items like remote controls, microphones, laser pointers, tables, food, easels, ...... Those are provided by departments or the speaker sponsoring groups.

Event Venues
Here we list the venues on campus where we have helped to install permanent, event focused multimedia. We list the rooms and the equipment readily available. Any of these rooms could have more equipment added if needed. If you are using a room not listed here, don't worry, we'll work to bring in portable technology to suit your needs. Find the complete list here.

Price List
We hope you'll find them very reasonable. We can bill directly to Rice account numbers, accept a check for payment, or work with your Purchase Order number.

+ Media Events

One-hour events that require postproduction will be charged at $245.00. Events without postproduction will run $175.00. This pricing model is for events that are produced to become part of the University’s collection of assets. In cases where copies of media are requested, additional fees will apply. Pricing for events that do not fall under this category will be subject to fees to be negotiated at the time when the services are requested. Please keep in mind that these are fees for most events, but situations that require special set-ups and equipment will be quoted separately.

+ Storage for on-demand viewing
Event media can be viewed on live at http://webcast.rice. Event related media can also be viewed on-demand after the media has been processed at http://webcast.rice. We offer on demand streaming in several formats, as well as, as allowed by the individual speakers, downloadable audio and video items on the same site or via our iTunes sites. Individuals, centers and units that are affiliated with the University, but that retain operational and financial independence from the rest of the institution, can receive support from RMS for production, storage and distribution. In the latter case, non-sunsidized fees will apply for all production, storage and distribution. Please contact the Rice Media Services [avevents{at}rice.edu] for current pricing. NOTICE: this address us can only receive e-mails from @rice.edu addressess!

Video Conferencing

IT provides video conferencing free of service, under most circumstances. Qualifying conferences are those that:

1. connect sites via IP, or
2. connect sites via ISDN but the external calling party initiates the call, and
3. require no further technical support once the connection is established

Customers will be responsible for charges if:

1. An ISDN call is initiated at Rice (long distance charges will be passed to the customer)
2. Technical support is necessary for a substantial time beyond the initial cost ($35.00 - $70.00/hr)
3. The call is unrelated to the University business and its academic mission (technical support will be charged at $70.00-$140.00/hr)
